Hafez’s Tomb is a poet’s tomb located close to the city center, known for its solemn atmosphere. Hafez, originally named “Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī”, was born in Shiraz in 1315, and “Hafez” is his pen name. Hafez is the most revered poet in Iran, and visitors to Hafez’s Tomb often witness his “fans” paying their respects to his marble sarcophagus. Hafez passed away in the year 1390, and the present tomb was completed in 1935.
