Victoria Botanical Gardens, also known as Mont Fleuri Botanical Gardens Seychelles, was established in 1901 by Mr. Paul Evenor Rivalz Dupont, the director of the Seychelles Agricultural and Nature Conservation Center. Today, the Seychelles Ministry of Environment is responsible for managing the botanical gardens, overseeing operations such as introducing new species and cultivating plants.
Located in Victoria, the capital city of Seychelles, Victoria Botanical Gardens is a major tourist attraction. The gardens showcase a variety of unique plant species from the Seychelles archipelago, including over 80 plant species found nowhere else in the world. Visitors can admire tall hardwood trees, white orchids, peculiar pitcher plants, extremely rare jellyfish trees, and the iconic coco de mer palm tree. The white orchid has been designated as the national flower and exporting it has been prohibited since 1971. The gardens also house some rare animals for visitors to enjoy, such as giant tortoises from Aldabra Atoll and the unique Seychelles blue pigeon with orange chest feathers, providing a delightful experience for nature enthusiasts.
