Palembang is located on the southeastern bank of the Musi River in southern Sumatra, Indonesia. It is one of the largest cities on the island of Sumatra and serves as the provincial capital of South Sumatra. Additionally, it is the largest port and trade center in southern Sumatra.

Palembang is an ancient city of Indonesia and the birthplace of the Srivijaya Kingdom. It is renowned for its flowing Musi River, exquisite embroidery, historically significant Srivijaya archaeological park, grand mosque, and a monument commemorating the heroic struggles of the people throughout history. The city also boasts the Balaputradeva Museum, showcasing artifacts of Srivijaya, the Textile Museum displaying textiles from all regions of South Sumatra, the majestic Mayor’s Office building, and the urban jungle spanning 50 hectares with numerous monkey troops, among many other worthwhile attractions. Furthermore, the Ampera Bridge, a magnificent vertical lift road bridge constructed in 1962 spanning the Musi River, is a prominent landmark of Palembang.
