Jesus is not born into a prestigious royal family or raised in a renowned city, but in a humble household and brought up in the despised town of Nazareth. Nazareth, also known as Nazereth, is a city in the northern part of Israel, situated in the historical region of Galilee. Since the Middle Ages, most of it has been occupied by Arab Christians. It is believed that Jesus spent his youth in the village of Safuriyah near this city, which is one of the holy cities of Christianity, featuring sites such as the “Cave of the Annunciation” and “Joseph’s Workshop”. Nazareth currently has a population of 45,000, with well-developed transportation, serving as a significant commercial center in the Galilee region. The majority of residents are Arabs, predominantly Muslims, with a considerable number of Arab Christians as well, making it the largest city in Israel with a concentration of Arab residents. Nazareth, located in the Galilee region of Israel (historically, some say it’s a Palestinian city, due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with border disputes), lies in the Jezreel Valley (32°42′ N, 35°17′ E). The Arab residents, primarily Muslims, make up the main population and it is a major commercial center for Arabs in the Galilee region. The city’s Arab residents are predominantly Muslims, with the rest being Greek Orthodox Christians. The large cathedral on the “Cave of the Annunciation” is the biggest Catholic church in the Middle East. The handicraft industry mainly produces souvenirs of the holy sites. The Jewish population mainly resides in the new city area of Upper Nazareth. Industries in the city include chocolate production, food processing, textile, and knitting industries. Nazareth also serves as a residential area for the port city of Haifa.
