Donetsk is located on the upper reaches of the Kalmius River and serves as the capital of Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine. It is the fifth largest city in Ukraine and has a relatively high proportion of Russian population compared to other cities in Ukraine. This city can be said to be the unofficial capital and largest city of the Donbas region, as well as an important economic and cultural center.

Donetsk is renowned as a sports city in Ukraine, equipped with advanced infrastructure and has hosted international events such as the Davis Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The Donbass Arena is the main sports venue in Donetsk, considered one of the best football stadiums in Eastern Europe.
Donetsk is also known as the “City of Museums”, boasting more than 140 museums, with the Donetsk Historical Museum and Donetsk Art Museum being the most prominent. The former mainly tells the history of the city, housing over 120,000 items ranging from archaeological artifacts from the prehistoric era to important historical items from the Soviet period and beyond.
