The city of Chichen Itza, known as the “Feathered Serpent,” was the largest and most prosperous city-state of the ancient Mayan civilization. In the past, the Mayans built many important structures with stone here, and now it is a must-visit destination for exploring the Mayan civilization ruins. Chichen Itza is an archaeological site of ancient Maya cities, located in the southern part of Yucatan State, Mexico. It is 3 kilometers long from north to south, 2 kilometers wide from east to west, with hundreds of buildings, representing the remains of ancient Maya and Toltec cultures. “Chichen” means “at the mouth of the well,” and the natural wells served as the foundation for building the city. It is now divided into two halves by a highway. The southern Old Chichen Itza was built between the 7th and 10th centuries AD, characterized by Mayan cultural features such as the Pyramid of Kukulkan, columned halls, ball courts, markets, and an observatory, mainly decorated with stone carvings. The northern New Chichen Itza consists of gray buildings with Toltec cultural features, including the Kukulkan Pyramid and the Temple of Warriors, adorned with simple lines and feathered serpent clay carvings.
