Near Andros Island, the sea is as clear as crystal, making it a sanctuary for divers and fishermen. This island is the oldest diving destination in the world, with the second largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere located here. Andros Island is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 20 miles west of the capital Nassau Island, and it is the largest island in the Bahamas archipelago. Comprising many small islands, it stretches 104 miles north to south and 40 miles east to west, with a population of about 8,000 residents and minimal development. The island boasts abundant natural resources, with the largest land, freshwater, and forest area in the Bahamas. There are numerous wetlands, large fruit tree plantations, and medium-sized vegetable farms on the island, as well as being the location of the Center for Marine Studies and Evaluation in the Atlantic. It is the source of mythological stories about buried pirate treasures and mysterious marine creatures. Like many other places in the Bahamas, it offers excellent diving spots, with its coral reefs being particularly impressive, ranking as the third largest in the world. The island is mainly covered with mangrove forests and is said to be the homeland of a mysterious creature that is half human and half bird, believed to have the ability to ward off evil.
