The Garden of the Sleeping Giant is located at the foot of the Nausori Highlands in Fiji, not far from the north of Nadi. It was originally a private garden established by the American “Wheelchair Detective” actor Raymond Burr in 1977. Initially not well-known, the garden has become one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island of Fiji with the increasing number of tropical orchids planted in it.
Although the Garden of the Sleeping Giant is famous for its orchids, its interesting external structure is also attractive enough. The whole garden looks like the face profile of a deep-sleeping giant from a distance, with a distinctively large belly typical of the locals, hence the name of the garden.
In this 20-hectare botanical garden, there are approximately 2000 different species of orchids, including some rare local varieties of orchids in Fiji, making it the largest orchid garden in Fiji. In addition, the garden also specifically cultivates many tropical plants and thirty to forty precious species of lotus from Asia! Walking on the country roads filled with natural atmosphere in the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, surrounded by jungles, and with large lotus ponds like pearls dotted throughout the garden, the scented pathways and the colorful and charming orchids are definitely a visual delight!
